Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen Oversized Sneaker White/Black/Transparent

Born in London on March 17th, 1969 Lee Alexander McQueen was the youngest of 6 siblings. With his dad being a taxi driver and his mom a teacher, Alexander didn’t grow up in a household of money. Just at the age of 16 Alexander left school to take up an apprenticeship at  Savile Row tailor Anderson and Sheppard, before moving down the road to Gieves & Hawkes (where, it is rumoured, he embroidered a suit for the Prince of Wales with the legend ‘I am a c**t’ in the lining). Both masters in the art of technical clothing construction, it is here that McQueen learned the intricacies of fitting, cutting and classic tailoring methods. The next two years would see McQueen employed by Koji Yatsuno in London and the famed Romeo Gigli in Milan before enrolling on the prestigious MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martin’s, after being turned down for a teaching post at the school. It was here when he sold his entire 1992 Jack the Ripper to Europe’s Fashion elite to Isabella Blow. After he has sold his first collection he took all his money and invested it into his own house and named the company Alexander McQueen using his middle name as the brand name. It was long until other designer houses showed interest in him. In 1994 he became Givenchy’s Chief designer. While he was very public about the troubles between him and Givenchy some of Alexander’s most memorable collections were from when he was under Givenchy.
