RELEASE RADAR: CACTUS JACK AIR FORCE 1 UTOPIA
In a surprise release, travisscott.com has exclusively released the latest in the series of collaborations with Nike, an all-white Air Force 1. A shock to all, no one knew about the sneaker release before today. Of course, the shoe also honors the release of “Utopia”, Travis Scott’s album which was released earlier today. The shoe features a white leather construction with the title “Utopia” incorporated throughout the design.
The new Air Force includes the “Utopia” album logo and Cactus Jack branding. Small black accents will also balance the shoe’s clean white. The album, also accompanied by the movie “Circus Maximus”, released earlier today. This is Scott’s 4th album, and the movie will feature many of the tracks as its score. While fans have long anticipated this double release, the shocking inclusion of the new Air Force 1 is a pleasant surprise.
Travis’s previous Air Force collaborations released in 2017 and 2019. The first, donned simply “Travis Scott”, is similar to the current edition. The silhouette is colored with the classic AF white with a silver metallic swoosh, reflective trim, and gum rubber outsole. Most notably, the design incorporates Velcro, allowing the wearer to remove and refasten the iconic Nike swoosh. To flip the script, the Nike branding on the heel is upside down. Like many other Travis Scott collaborations, it’s Nike with a twist.
The second of the two Travis Scott x Air Force 1 releases, “Cactus Jack” is a more colorful departure. Mixed patterns and a removable zipper element creates an innovative departure from previous Air Force designs. The materials used include corduroy, canvas, suede, and other patchwork elements.
This collaboration comes on the heels of another album-celebrating release, Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy” AF1. Like the new “Utopia” collaboration, the 2021 Drake shoe refers to the album with its sole script “Love You Forever”. The artist’s favorite book served as the inspiration for the album and the shoe comes with customized laces and alphabetical beads.
